The name first appeared in 1926 but its origins trace back to Daimler's 1901 Mercedes, and to Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent Motor Wagen. The Benz patent Motor Wagen is widely regarded as the actual first automobile. Karl Benz's creation of the first petroleum-powered car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, was patented in January 1886. Gottlieb Daimler and engineer Wilhelm Maybach's converted a stagecoach wagon by the addition of a petroleum engine, later that year.
The Mercedes was actually first marketed in 1901. Since their debut, Mercedes has maintained their reputation for quality and durability. In 2007, Mercedes rank came up from twenty fifth to fifth place in J.D. Powers Quality Study. They even won some awards for a couple of their models. In 2008, they moved up to fourth place. As of 2011, J.D. Powers ranked Mercedes-Benz as above average. Mercedes is known as the world’s oldest automotive brand, still here today. Mercedes-Benz is very well established throughout the world.
